Soumya Sarkar Calls for Bigger Celebrations After Bangladesh’s ODI Series Triumph Over Australia
Soumya Sarkar, the Bangladesh batter, feels the team ought to have celebrated more after taking a 2-0 lead over Australia in their historic ODI series — and even after losing the third and final match by 67 runs on Friday.
What I am trying to say is, Soumya after the series said that Bangladesh’s win was a big achievement in the history of Bangladesh Cricket and maybe during that time the players did not realize how big a thing beating a mighty cricketing nation like Australia. Although the team was happy with the overall result, he believes celebrations should have been much bigger and louder given the scale of what had been done.
Bangladesh secured the ODI series prior to the third ODI, putting in thorough performances in the first two matches to claim an unassailable lead. But Australia hit back hard in the last game to prevent a clean sweep for the hosts. Bangladesh won the series despite losing and yet another memorable footnote appears on its fast growing successful International Cricket noggin.
Soumya said that having wins against high-end teams do not come around often, and should be earned. Players, he said, often transition and quickly push towards their next task but sometimes miss the significance of landmark accomplishments. A series win over Australia is the type of outcome to emerging and replicating performances which can lift the spirits of an entire team, he said.
The left-handed batsman also commended the collective effort in the entire series. This was because Bangladesh’s bowlers provided important breakthroughs at moments which counted, while the country’s batting unit built extended pressure on the visiting team. Such a solid team performance ensured that Bangladesh could dominate much of the series and claim victory.
Soumya added that going forward, the team need to use the victory as a source of motivation instead of complacency. With the series victory, Bangladesh will now look to consolidate their momentum and continue from the confidence they gained out of this series.
It was a disappointing finish to the three-match series but, overall, this is just another astounding chapter in the history of Bangladesh cricket. As Soumya Sarkar said, moments like these should be cherished and remembered well while preparing for more glorious days ahead.
